Faculty Collage

The faculty in the School of Social Sciences have extremely diverse research interests that span many fields, but one thing they all have in common is excellence in achievement. Our faculty have been the recipients of prestigious research awards from agencies including the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Russell Sage Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the Teagle Foundation, to name just a few. They collaborate with individuals at institutions all over the world, and many have strong collaborative relationships with researchers in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center.

The Rice Social Sciences faculty strongly believe in encouraging the next generation of researchers, and they frequently hire undergraduate and graduate student researchers to assist them with their projects. Many of our faculty are asked to serve as mentors or advisors on predoctoral or postdoctoral funding applications, and they encourage their students to learn the process of submitting grant applications to prepare them for future careers in academia.

It is no wonder that, in addition to being recognized as premier research scholars, they consistently win between a third and a half of all university-wide teaching awards.
