The Gateway Travel Stipend is available to social sciences undergraduate students who are participating in an off-campus practicum and who need assistance in paying for their transportation to and from the host location. Support is for students enrolled in SOSC 405- Law Practicum, SOSC 406- Judicial Practicum, SOSC 444- Consulting Practicum, and HUMA 402/403- Medical Humanities Internship (sections for social sciences majors only).
Students who receive the travel stipend are responsible for budgeting their time and funding for the entirety of the semester. Additional requests for funding submitted after the deadline will only be considered with an appropriate justification and receipt evidence demonstrating need.
Location: Practicum sites that are within walking distance of the Houston MetroRail, the Rice Bus, or the UTHealth Bus are NOT eligible.
Enrollment: To receive the travel stipend you must be a current social sciences undergraduate enrolled in SOSC 405- Law Practicum, SOSC 406- Judicial Practicum, SOSC 444- Consulting Practicum, and HUMA 402/403- Medical Humanities Internship (sections for social sciences majors only).

Support levels are based on distance from Rice University to the practicum site.
1 to 5 miles = $100 stipend
5 to 10 miles = $150 stipend
10 to 20 miles = $200 stipend
20+ miles = $250 stipend
Students must submit the Gateway Practica Off-Campus Travel Stipend Request Form (click here to download) on or before January 22nd, 2018 to be eligible.
The Gateway Office will process student stipends on the January 22nd deadline.
All stipends will be paid by direct deposit or by check and sent to students in campus mail.
