The School of Social Sciences has announced a new partnership with the Future Leaders in Public Service Internship Program, providing another valuable experiential opportunity for students through the Frances Anne Moody-Dahlberg Gateway Program.
Open to School of Social Sciences undergraduate students, the 10-12-week paid internship program offers hands-on experience, professional development, and a pathway into public service. Internship opportunities focus on public interest technology, AI, data science, and public administration, with projects ranging from research and policy to coding and tool development.
The Moody Gateway Program will provide $5,000 in funding directly to social sciences undergraduate students who have been placed with the Future Leaders Program for the summer of 2027.
“Funding from the Moody Gateway Program has enabled us to expand experiential career-related opportunities for Rice Social Sciences students,” said Abbey Godley, assistant dean for student programs for the School of Social Sciences. “The new partnership with the Future Leaders in Public Service Internship Program will provide valuable real-world skills, connections, and experiences for our students that will enhance their career opportunities in public service.”
Also under the Future Leaders umbrella, Rice University’s Master of Global Affairs students, who will be continuing their program in fall 2027, are eligible to apply for the Harold W. Rosenthal Fellowship in International Relations. While the Future Leaders Program serves undergraduate students, the Rosenthal Fellowship is designed for graduate students pursuing careers in international affairs. The paid summer fellowship places students in government offices at the executive and legislative levels, where they gain hands-on experience in policymaking and public service, along with professional development and networking opportunities.
The Master of Global Affairs program will provide $5,000 in fellowship funds directly to Master of Global Affairs students placed with the Rosenthal Fellowship in summer 2027.
All School of Social Sciences students who are interested in a Future Leaders in Public Service Internship and Master of Global Affairs students interested in the Rosenthal Fellowship must apply on GoGovernment.org by Friday, November 27, 2026 at 11:59pm ET.
