Undergraduate Research Symposium

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to apply?

Open to all social sciences majors or an interdisciplinary team with at least one social sciences major.

What types of research projects are eligible?

In-progress and finished projects with work done within the last year.

Can I present ongoing research?

Yes! We welcome early-stage research projects. This is an excellent opportunity to get feedback and build your research capacity.

Does my research have to be current (i.e. conducted in this year)?

Yes, research must have been conducted in the current academic year.

Can I submit multiple projects?

For our April 2024 event, we will accept one project per person.

If we enter as a group, do all members apply individually?

For students presenting as a group, one person should submit this form for the group. However, the group should sit down to complete the form together, as questions will be asked about each group member presenting. All other collaborators on the research project who are not presenting should be listed clearly on your poster or presentation.

What materials do I need to prepare?

In addition to basic biographical information, students should also submit their research abstract along with the name of their faculty mentor(s).

Can I edit my project after submitting?

Yes, we expect students may be early stage researchers or finishing a final project for the semester. The project attended at SSURS should be aligned with the original abstract submitted in the application.

What happens after I submit?

Students will be notified of their selection by Monday, April 1, 2024. Additional information regarding day-of logistics will be share with participants.

The Social Sciences Dean’s Office can assist with poster printing expenses.
